Tit for Tat
Manilal was a rich merchant but he was very thrifty, selfish and
cruel in nature. He
used to avoid paying to the people who work for him. Because of this nature people used to avoid any deal with him. If somebody approaches him for borrowing something he used to pretend as a
deaf person. Once
Manilal got ill. But
nobody came to his help though there were many doctors in the village.
At last one of the doctors
felt pity for him. He
examined him and gave some medicines. Due to these medicines he got cured. Once while he was passing through
dispensary, doctor called him and enquired about his health. Manilal said, "I am completely cured." Then doctor asked
him to pay his fees. Suddenly
Manilal's face changed and he started pretending as a deaf man. "What Doctor?"
asked Manilal. Doctor could make out his shrewdness. Doctor said to
Manilal's son who accompanied him, "Your father got cured because of my
medicines still he became completely deaf due its side effects. Some additional medicines will have to be given to him for proper
hearing." On hearing this Manilal shouted at Doctor and said immediately,
"No, No, Doctor, I can hear everything." Doctor said, "then pay me
my dues." Displeasured
merchant then had to pay Doctor's fees. The
merchant's pretence couldn’t last long.
Moral: It is true that any pretence cannot last long because of its falseness.

मणिलाल
हा एक श्रीमंत व्यापारी होता, पण तो खूप काटकसरी, स्वार्थी आणि तुसड्या स्वभावाचा होता. आपले
काम झाल्यावर त्याची किंमत द्यायला तो टाळाटाळ करत असे. त्याच्या या
स्वभावामुळे लोकही त्याच्याशी व्यवहार करीत नसत. त्याच्याकडे
कोणी उधार मागायला आले की तो बहिऱ्याचे सोंग घेत असे. एकदा मणिलाल आजारी पडला. गावात बरेच
डॉक्टर असूनही त्याच्या मदतीला कोणी गेले नाही.
अखेर एका डॉक्टरांना दया आली. त्यांनी मणिलालला तपासून औषधे दिली. त्या औषधामुळे मणिलालला बरे वाटू लागले. एकदा तो दवाखान्यासमोरून जात असताना डॉक्टरांनी त्याला बोलावून
त्याची विचारपूस केली. मणिलाल
म्हणाला,
"मी ठणठणीत बरा झालोय." तेंव्हा डॉक्टर
मणिलालला म्हणाले, "आता माझी फी द्या." त्याच क्षणी मणिलालच्या चेहऱ्याचा रंग बदलला आणि तो बहिरेपणाचा आव
आणू लागला. "क.. क.. काय म्हणालात ?"मणिलालने विचारले. मणिलालची चलाखी डॉक्टरांच्या लक्षात आली. मणिलालच्या सोबत
आलेल्या त्याच्या मुलाला डॉक्टर म्हणाले, "माझ्या औषधांमुळे
यावेळेस तुझ्या वडिलांची तब्येत बरी झाली; परंतु त्या औषधांच्या
साईड इफेक्टमुळे तुझे वडील ठार बहिरे झाले आहेत. आता तर त्यांना पुन्हा
नीट ऐकायला येण्यासाठी आणखी औषधे द्यावी लागतील.” ते ऐकताच मणिलाल डॉक्टरांच्या अंगावर खेकसले आणि पटकन म्हणाले, "छे छे
मला सगळे ऐकू येते आहे !" डॉक्टर म्हणाले, "मग द्या माझी फी !" हिरमुसलेल्या मणिलालना डॉक्टरांची फी द्यावीच लागली. व्यापाऱ्याचे
सोंग फार काळ टिकले नाही.
तात्पर्य: कोणतेही सोंग किंवा
ढोंग फार काळ टिकत नाही हेच खरे. कारण त्यामागे खोटेपणा असतो.
