Learn English with Moral Stories-2. Strength of Tolerance

Strength of Tolerance

King Yashodhana of Anandnagar was a very popular King. Every day he used to go to one of the village of his Kingdome & inquire about a common man. He actually used to see how the people live & what are their problems. Once while moving around his kingdom King Yashodhana stopped at a blacksmith’s shop.  Blacksmith was busy in his work. Suddenly he got hint that somebody has come. When he saw that king Yashodhana himself is standing at the door of his shop, he felt very happy. He requested his lordship to come to his hut. King was also very compassionate & care taker of the subject. He also used to administer justice evenly. On seeing blacksmith's persistence, the king entered the veranda of his house. While looking closely the jobs done by the blacksmith, he saw five to six hammers at the corner. Because of continuous hammering these hammers were broken into pieces. On seeing these broken hammers  King Yashodhana asked blacksmith, "By continuous hammering these hammers are broken then how many anvils you required?"  On which the blacksmith said, "Sir, the anvil is one only. It tolerates the strike of hundreds of hammers." Hammers do strike but the anvil has got strength of tolerating these strikes.  The striking hammer breaks but the anvil which tolerates these strikes becomes more powerful because of its quality of tolerance.

Moral: One who tolerates the strike of calamities lasts long. But the calamities become worthless like hammers.
