Value of Possession
Tenaliram was an adviser to a king named Krishnadevrai. He was quick witted and
intelligent and also a minister of the kingdom. These qualities of Tenaliram gave fame to the Kingdom. The king always
welcomed Tenali's suggestions and administered them for the Kingdom's
prosperity. Other ministers and Tenali’s seniors
envied him due to his influence over the king. All of them made many attempts to ruin Tenali's reputation. Once all the ministers chalked out
a plan that would put Tenali at in absolute trouble and hence one of them went to the king and
told him that Tenali is very intelligent but is equally corrupt. He has been exacting
money from many poor and needy people for his benefit. The king got very angry on the
minister and dismissed him from the Kingdom. After a few days it came to light
that all the ministers had starting objecting Tenali's behaviour. One fine day the king checked with Tenali and asked him to prove
himself within two days. Tenali send a letter to the king through one of his follower. Tenali had expressed his discontent regarding the whole issue and
decided to commit suicide. Not only the king but
also the whole Kingdom got heartbroken hearing the outrageous news. The minister accepted their misdeed and explained that Tenali
was not at fault. The king noticed that the ones who
abused Tenaliram had suddenly started praising him.
Moral: As long as you possess a thing you do not realise its value but as soon as
it extinguishes you feel its absence.
अस्तित्वाची किंमत
तेनालीराम हा कृष्णदेवराय नावाच्या राजाचा मुख्य सल्लागार
होता. तेनालीराम एक हजरजबाबी आणि अतिशय
विद्वान मंत्री होता. तेनालीरामाच्या गुणांमुळे राज्याची कीर्ती सर्वदूर पसरली होती.त्यामुळे
साहजिकच कृष्णदेवराय प्रत्येक गोष्टी- साठी तेनालीरामचा सल्ला घेत असे आणि त्याने
दिलेला सल्ला आपल्या राज्याच्या उत्कर्षासाठी राजा नेहमी ऐकत असे. त्यामुळे इतर मंत्र्यांना आणि जेष्ठांना तेनालीचा मत्सर
वाटत असे. यांतील प्रत्येकाने तेनालीची
प्रतिष्ठा मलीन करण्याचा खूप प्रयत्न केले. एकदा सर्व मंत्र्यांनी एकत्र येऊन अशी योजना आखली ज्यामुळे तेनाली संकटात
सापडेल. त्या योजनेप्रमाणे एक जण राजाकडे
गेला आणि राजाला म्हणाला की, तेनाली जितका बुद्धिमान आहे तितकाच भ्रष्ट देखील आहे.
त्याने
अनेक गरीब आणि गरजू लोकांकडून काम करण्याचे पैसे घेतले आहे. हे ऐकून राजाला त्याचा
खूप राग आला आणि राजाने त्या मंत्र्याला हाकलून दिले. काही
दिवसानंतर सर्वच मंत्र्यांनी तेनालीच्या वागणुकीबद्दल राजाकडे तक्रार केली. मग मात्र राजाने तेनालीला जाब विचारला आणि आपला
प्रामाणिकपणा दोन दिवसांत सिध्द करण्यास सांगितले. दुसऱ्या दिवशी तेनालीने आपल्या
नोकरामार्फत राजाला एक पत्र पाठवले. त्यात लिहिले होते की या सर्व प्रकरणामुळे तो खूप नाराज झाला असून
त्याने आत्महत्या करण्याचे ठरवले आहे. ही बातमी ऐकून राजाच नव्हे तर पूर्ण
राज्य दु:खी झाले पण दरबारातील
मंत्र्यांनाही दु:ख झाले. मंत्र्यांनी
त्यांचे दुष्कृत्य मान्य केले आणि तेनालीची कोणतीच चूक नव्हती हे स्पष्ट केले. राजाच्या लक्षात
आले की तेनालीची तक्रार करणारेच तेनालीची प्रशंसा करत आहेत.
तात्पर्य: एखादी गोष्ट आपल्याकडे
असते तेंव्हा त्याची किंमत कळत नसते परंतु
ती संपताच तिची उणीव लक्षात येते.
